Default Post PPCM Baby is here... with relapse

Baby Muriel was born on March 22 after a very long induction weighing 8 lbs. 12 oz. and measuring 21 inches long. She is healthy and beautiful and we are all thrilled. Amelia is absolutely loving being a big sister and is a huge help.

My last echo before delivery showed an EF of 57%... I came home from the hospital with a terrible cold, then about a week and a half after delivery, I was having extreme shortness of breath at night so went into the ER. Based on the chest xray, I was diagnosed with pneumonia, but since I have a history of PPCM, they checked my BNP and found it to be around 350. Was admitted and started on antibiotics for the pneumonia... had an echo the next morning that showed an EF of 30%. 48 hrs. on telemetry showed no arrhythmias and after getting the fluid out of my lungs, getting the OK from infectious disease, and getting stabilized on my heart meds, I am home. I'm actually feeling pretty great right now. Hoping things will go well and we will have a complete recovery, but a little uneasy knowing there are no guarantees.

Anyone else have experience with a relapse that resulted in a full recovery that they can share?

Dr. Fett... Can you share your thoughts on my prognosis for recovery? To summarize my situation, I was fully recovered (EF 54%) and off all meds when I began my pregnancy but my stress echo was a few points shy of the goal for contractile reserve... My 32 week echo showed an Ef of 57%, 10 days post partum echo showed 30%. I am currently taking Lisinopril (10 mg), Carvedilol (3.125 mg 2x per day), Digoxin (250 mcg), Furosimide (40 mg), Potassium, and Spironolactone (25 mg). I see my cardiologist in 2 weeks and imagine he will look at increasing my Carvedilol at that time. Thanks so much for your help!
