Hi Dr. Fett,

Just wondering if you have heard about the new NATURAL hormone replacement therapy that natural doctors are using? They are mostly doing it for menopausal and post-menopausal women, but I wondered if it would be effective for us ppcm'ers? I think I read in one of your studies that we have an extra level of a certain hormone? What this natural hrt is, is the doctor tests your levels of hormones and then, using natural, for-real hormones, they make you up a specific mixture of what you are lacking. Just curious if you think it is something valuable for me to check in to? Of course, it is "natural" and insurance doesn't cover it.

Thanks for all you do,

Mandy

Hi Mandy. No, I'm not familiar with this. I wonder if it has had clinical trials in a controlled trial? If not, I suspect you risk spending your money for little or no value. Recovered or near-recovered PPCM patients who need HRT should be able to tolerate proven regimens well. Your cardiologist and gynecologist are the best to advise.

I consulted my cardiologist after my hysterectomy because I wanted to go and get the hormones from the pharmacist which are bioidentical and he said that personally he would prefer I stick with the tried and true hormones that have been tested and used for years even with the cases of problems which of course every drug has in some cases. He said that it would be safe as far as my heart was concerned to use hrt and thank God because I was miserable without them. He said as long as the ovaries are removed it is safe because it is a totally controlled replacement and I had a complete hysterectomy since I was over 40 after I had Daisy. I had my hysterectomy about 6 months after my diagnosis when my ef was about 35%.
