Dr. Fett,
I am not sure if you remember me or not, I have been active in the past but life and my volunteering at AHA has gotten in the way of participation on this site the last few years.

My question is in regards to the side effects of the meds that many of us have been on. I am not almost 8 years post dx and have been off meds for almost 3 years now. I do not question the meds I was on and if I had it to do over again I would want the same ones, as they really did save my life. I started at 10% EF and throughout the years have improved to 50% (and to the amazment of my Cardio still seem to improve 1 or 2 percentage points every year). That being said, what studies have been done to determine the effects of being on those high doses of meds, even for only a few years? I am asking because, especially in the Winter, I have extreme problems with the circulation in my hands, they go numb and hurt a lot, and overall I am extremely cold until the weather breaks again and hits 50 degrees. I never loved the cold but it wasn't until after PPCM that I had such an reaction to it. Is this normal? I know orginally I wrote it off as low Bp, which I struggled with while on the meds (and was the reason cardio took me off the meds), but I continue to have problems and my Bp is in complete normal range. Am I the only one to experiece this and is there any solution other than convincing my Dh to move South for the winter?:)

Glad you are recovered from PPCM. Being a type of autoimmune illness, the immune system may sometimes change and can give some autoimmune symptoms, so you would want to be sure that you don't have any Raynaud's phenomenon with the cold weather finger symptoms, which may often be more nuisance than serious. I don't think it would be from long-term medication problems, and the heart failure meds continue to be good almost indefinitely, if no allergies. Hopefully all will be well, but if unexplained bothersome symptoms good to review with your primary care physician first.
