I went to the doctors yesterday because as of Sunday I haven't been able to speak at all.I was diagnosed with severe broncitis. He gave me some Zithromax and sent me on my way. I was scared to death when I saw the sample packs because that is what they gave me for my so called cold four years ago, right before I had CHF. I am pretty sure that the Zithromax had nothing to do with it but it still scares the daylights out of me and as of today, i still haven't touched the prescription. I still am not able to talk and my throat is killing me...any suggestions?

Lauren,
Is the doctor you saw aware of your heart history? That's the important thing.
Zithromax is a wonderful antibiotic, and I've been on it many times in my life (for the pneumonia that was really edema, for example).
I hope you get better soon. It's good to see you back on here.

I know how you can associate things with PPCM, as I do. Zithromax is a very good antibiotic. Are you afraid it somehow caused your CHF or you just don't like to take it because of the reminder? I have been on it many many many times since diagnoses, it's very strong and usually what works for me. If you cannot take it, call your doctor and get another prescription. I do know what your EF is but bronchitis can comprimise your health as well so you need to be on something. Good luck!

I guess it reminds me of my CHF and also makes me think that it somehow caused it or something??? I dunno, I worry alot. I'm going to take it..I just wanted to make sure that you girls thought it was okay...Once again thank you for being my backbone...Lauren

I doubt that Zithromax stirs up any CHF but it is something that is triggering that memory. If it were me I would take it. Ask Dr. Fett if you would feel more comfortable or call your Cardiologist's nurse. I am sure it will be fine. You do need to take an antibiotic though! Well wishes and prayers for you!

Hey! I also have been on zithromax since my dx. It didn't do a thing but make me feel better! I can see how you would make the connection though...I was diagnosed at Christmas and just the sight of my Christmas tree this year sent me into hysterics! I actually threw it away and it made me feel much better! If you are that uncomfortable, maybe you should ask your dr. for a different medication!
Hope you feel better soon!

I see how that would trigger something in your brain like that, but I'm sure that has nothing to do with it. I am afraid to take antibiotics sometimes too. I took one a few months back that was very strong (one of those 3 day antibiotics) and it made me have some weird reaction and I was dizzy and shaky and nauseated. Sometimes I wonder about the drug interaction with my heart meds.

You should have seen me the first time I had blood drawn after being discharged. It was 18 months later and I burst into tears--how embarrassing! I (tearfully) explained to the woman trying to take my blood that I had been really sick and it just freaked me out. She was very understanding.
I hope you are taking the meds now...

I had to go back to UNC earlier this week for an unrelated doctor's visit. I dropped in on "my old floor" to see all the doctors and nurses that took care of me. I was completely fine on my way in, and from out of the blue, as soon as the doors to L&D opened, I almost burst into tears. I didn't realize I had such strong feelings about that place or those people.
One of my nurses took me back to my old room to show me the sticker my son placed on the nurse call button. It's still there! And that was over a year ago! She said the nurses have to explain it to just about every patient who ends up in that room.
I love those people dearly, but I don't think I can go back there anymore. I will have to invite them to come out and see me.
