View Full Version : Nausea and PPCM

I was just curious... were any of the rest of you nauseated during your pregnancy? I was so sick I almost had to be hospitalized because I couldn't quit throwing up. I was finally given a drug called Zofran. I have often wondered if it could have done anything to my heart. Wouldn't it be interesting if we could all find one common denominator to all of this? I read that ppcm can be caused by malnutrition, but I doubt just from my pregnancy nausea I could have been that malnourished. Any thoughts?

Hey Mandy,
Yes, I would love to find the common denominator...I think about that all the time. You know, I was NEVER sick during my pregnancy....It was the EASIEST pregnancy...I never felt BETTER??? Isn't that weird?
Hope this helps!!!

Mandy,
I've already found the common denominator. From my experience with this little group of girls, I've decided that PPCM only strikes extraordinary, strong willed, awesome, beautiful women. If PPCM is the price we have to pay for that, oh well. ;)
I had morning sickness all day, every day with all of my pregnancies. This might not be so surprising, if you read one of my other posts about throwing up all the time. I do that even when I'm not pregnant. The only difference is that when pregnant, I was nauseated with it. When not pregnant, I typically have very little warning before I throw up. I was almost hospitalized with my first child, but not for malnutrition. I lost so much weight, the Army doctors (it would be an insult to vetrinarians to compare the two, but it's the closest thing I can think of...) thought it was intentional and I was trying to harm myself. It was only after pointing out in my records that I'd complained of vomiting at every prenatal visit I had, starting with the first one, that they decided I might not be a danger to myself.
In all seriousness - I suspect there is at least one microscopic common denominator in all of us. One day, some colleagues of Dr. Fett - maybe even Dr. Fett himself, will have that big "eureka" moment and we'll be able to specifically answer the why.

Yes, I had morning sickness during the day (or is it day sickness?) by both my pg's, especially with my second one. I learnt to vomit quite easily. After pregnancy I vomitted after every meal and was often nauseous, but that was caused by my CHF. I use zofran for a while, but I stopped when all my functions improved. Now I only vomit when I cough to much. My vomit reflex is easily thickled.

With my first pregnancy with all the discomforts I had vomitting and nausea just was not a problem, LOl. With my number two a boy pregnancy, I was so sick the whole pregnancy, I actually lost weight and came home my prepregnancy weight from the hospital. Well maybe about 5 lbs more...

I developed PPCM post partum with my last child. The first I was nauseous for about 2 weeks but never through up. Second child was a beautiful and easy pregnancy as was the third (my PPCM baby). Never vomited one drop.

I was nauseated and threw up in the first trimester and then could eat anything...AND I DO MEAN ANYTHING! :)
When I was in failure, I struggled to eat and eventually threw up and that is when I knew I was "shutting down" so to speak.
I threw up for a long time following my last hospital stay. Gallbladder I think, plus meds that were just tough to handle.
Serena, your answer is so funny, in the seems true kind of way. Once and awhile I will find that nagging in the back of my brain...WHY AND HOW? But there is never an answer as all the variables amongst us continue to bring more questions.
Ladies, this is definetly a ride and many times if I could have gotten off it I would have. Really appreciate you all. Alison

Sick 24-7 for the whole preg. I took Zofran and then it didn't help so i was prescribed something elseit was $900 a bottle but I don't remember the name of it. Just taking one of those pills would make you sick when you thought of how much they are(lol).

Thanks everyone! I know that I have probably said it alot of times, but I really appreciate having this website. It has helped me heal in so many ways. I actually got out and publicly spoke about ppcm for the first time yesterday. It was surprisingly healing. Thanks for all of the support from all of you. You give me courage and inspiration.

I was sick 24/7 with all four of my pregancies. Used phenergan with the first three and phenergan, zofran, compazine for the ppcm pregnancy. I was hospitalized several times with each one for dehydration and weight loss.

This is interesting, isnt it. I was so sick with my second and third pregnancy I used to just sit on the porch and hang my head over the side to throw up, because I got so tired of hanging over the toilet. I also took Zofran for most of my third pregnancy. Makes you wonder if there is any connection.

I had no sickness during my pregnancy but since this whole PPCM thing i get nauseated very, very easily. If one tiny piece of my hair is in my mouth it makes kicks up my gag reflex...actually I should say if the hair is just between my lips even. I can no longer hold anything in my mouth cuz it immediately makes me nauseous...very weird and probably totally unrelated but please let me know if anyone else has this same weird issue, we can feel special about being weird together!! ;)

I was nauseous for the first 16 weeks or so but never threw up. I just felt like I was going to throw up 24/7! It got better slowly as the pregnancy went on.

My daughter Christy was sick every day with both pregnancies and also took Zofran which she referred to as "gold". ;)

I also thought Zofran was gold, I'm not so sure anymore. It seems as if a few of us took it!

I remember when Zofran came out as I worked in Oncology (study of cancer) and it was very welcomed in those suffering severe nausea and vomiting. I had no idea it was available to preggos! That is great!
