I am searching for info on pregnancy after PPCM. What is your medical opinion on them.
I am a 20 yr, I went into failure as my son was coming out.(vaginal) My EF was 10% and now almost 1 yr out I am holding at 40%. I am not looking to have any more children right at this moment but in 5-10 years? My cardio wanted to have my tubes done however my ob would not do the procedure b/c I am so young and there could be hope for the future... Now I have a 5 yr IUD. I have only seen my one cardio and I guess I am just looking for more info. Thank you.

Welcome, Amanda. You are right, at this time, one year out from diagnosis of PPCM, with an EF of 40 percent, you are not in the low risk category (yet) for subsequent pregnancies. But you are only 20, and in 5 years you may be recovered and at low risk of relapse. Many answers to your question can be found in this forum, the algorithm at the top of this forum. Other questions can be answered from the Q & A formum with me, the top thread deals with " frequently asked questions" for PPCM patients to ask their doctors.

At this point the far more important issue for you is to assess if there is anything in addition in your treatment that may help to recover more and faster. Are you on beta-blocker treatment (Metoprolol XL or Coreg)? Are you an ACE-inhibitor treatment (such as lisinopril, enalopril, etc)? So far as blood tests, are your BNP and CRP normal? What is the size of your left ventricle?

Those are the most important questions, because at this stage, there may be things that could be done that would help your recovery. Prayers and best wishes,

JD
