And it was different than what I've had before. She spent time holding "it" at the spot under my breast bone and asked me to take deep breaths and hold them. Then she did the same at the base of my throat. Any reason why? I won't see the Cardiologist until the morning, and I'm really nervous.

Amanda,
I think it is normal. I know everytime I have had a echo done the do the same thing. Sorry, I do not the reason why they do it though.

By holding your breath they are able to get clearer pictures. Sometimes it is hard for them to get good pics of the heart borders etc. and often it is just the technician.

Thanks..it just seemed weird because I hadn't had that before. Maybe this tech was "new". But it was very uncomfortable.

I have had the exact same experience with my echos. It was "take a deep breath, hold it" and then repeat a couple dozen times! Sounds pretty typical to me. I think it has something to do with getting your lungs out of the way to get a better picture?? Sounds normal though. Best of luck tomorrow when you meet with the cardiologist.

I always had it too. I think maybe it depends, but this past time I had to do it more. I think they are getting a better look at the valves and how they open and shut...
Good LUck!
