Just seen the side effects of Brethine and I took this one will preg. It is known to cause heart problems as well as fetal problems. Here is a little about what I found.

Terbutaline sulfate should not be used for tocolysis. Serious adverse reactions may occur after administration of terbutaline sulfate to women in labor. In the mother, these include increased heart rate, transient hyperglycemia, hypokalemia, cardiac arrhythmias, pulmonary edema, and myocardial ischemia. Increased fetal heart rate and neonatal hypoglycemia may occur as a result of maternal administration.

Terbutaline (Brethine)

Side Effects: Palpitations, tachycardia, and PVCs, anxiety, tremor, and headache.

Subcutaneous injection: 0.25 mg; may be repeated in 15-30 minutes.
Preterm labor: 0.25 mg IM or IV. may be repeated in 15-30 minutes as needed.

I took this and within a week things went down hill. Wonder if this could be connected to me and my baby?

Melissa,

I had a terbutaline pump with my second pregnancy. While on it, my heart raced to about 160 (normal was 90s), but doctors ignored my complaints. I don't know if it contributed to the problems, or unmasked them.
Like everything else, it's a great drug for the masses, but doctors need to pay close attention to the few that don't tolerate it.

Hi ladies,

I was also on terbutaline. With my 1st pregnancy I was on it several times in the hospital and on a pill form. With my 2nd pregnancy I had to trips to the ER and had it then. That is it. Way less than before. But I have also heard that this may contribute to heart conditions. I don't know if this is the cause or not.
