Hi me AGAIN,

Okay, I've been off my coreg and lisiniprol for about (5) days, I've been taking my blood pressure religiously and it's normal...HOWEVER, my heart rate at rest is between 95 - 100 bpm....is this something that I need to call my cardiologist about? When I was on the coreg my heartrate was in the mid-70's. Maybe I shouldn't be off the coreg? I'm so confused and bit scared.

Please let me know!

Thanks,
Kari

I just wanted to mention that a lot of the people here that have gone off meds have done it gradually. Maybe one of the nurses can confirm this for you. I would call your cardio about your heartrate though and hopefully it will remedy itself!!!

My resting hr is about 80-85 off coreg. My dr knows this and has not voiced any concerns as 90 is high normal. Since you recently went off of the med, I would just put a call in to say, hey, this is what's happening, should I be concerned. That's just me. My nurse and dr have email so I will email them sometimes too.
One thing my dr said when I went off the meds was that it I would know if I went back into heart failure by water retention, difficulty breathing, all the things that took me to the er in the first place. I was and still am a bit nervous when just the least little bit of something was off (ie gained 2 pounds in one day...although eating those girl scout cookies will do that). Today I was exercising and my hr was up a little...I am a little sick, so is my son and I started on an asthma med. All those things will cause it to go up.
I was wearing a monitor and I noticed that when he coughed in his sleep my rate shot up by 10 points. Stress.
Hope this helps and try to not worry too much.

Thanks for the insight! I'm going to call him this afternoon and ask him about this. I am fighting some sort of virus...it feels like a sinus infection, I've had it for about 2 weeks my GP says it's a visrus and will have to run its course. I've been taking benadryl and mucinex (decongestant) which may be elevating my heart rate. I'll call though, I never want to take anything for granted anymore!

I'll let you guys know what he says.

Thanks,
Kari

Kari,

Carriep is right, you should just call them and give them an FYI. It is not necessarily a critical thing, but I've always been of the mindset that anytime there is a change in meds, a patient should follow-up to let the Dr. know how things are going.

I've never taken Mucinex, but if there is ephedrine or psuedoeph. in the drug, then it is probably the culprit. We joke that we hate cold and flu season because our patients come in to rehab, hook up to the monitor and their resting heart rate is at least 20 beats higher than normal. We go through all of the usual questioning "did you take your meds" etc.etc. and then we finally can dig out of them that the fact that they took an OTC decongestant.

Hope you are feeling better.

Only on coreg now and my resting Hr is 107, standing 130, exercising today it got up to 160 and I knew it, I got dizzy fast. What I don't understand is with an EF of 67 why a high HR? My doc knows about my problem I had today and he told me to keep going and do what I can in rehab.

I'm off the see the electrphysiologist today to see what he says about my heart rate. Resting this morning was 90 and my EF is back to 60%.

Okay, the cardio called me back. He said he wanted me to monitor (log) my heartrate for the next (2) weeks, he's wondering if it's b/c I'm fighting this cold or it may be the transitioning. If it doesn't get any better, he's putting me back on the med's.

I've always had a relatively high heartrate, even before PPCM...I'm just a very hyper (can't sit still kind of a person), I have always had a very high matabolism as well. So I did some research to find out if 100 / BPM could be normal for some people and all the research tends to lead to "NO" - NOT NORMAL. There's usually an underlying problem. So, I came upon a site that was talking about a benign tumors in the adrenal gland called Pheochromocytoma....it's caused by extra adrenaline release from the adrenal glands. It's very easy to treat and symptoms are: Headaches, fast heart rate, high metabolsim, erratic high to low blood pressure, anxiety and in some rare cases PPCM??????? huh, something I'm going to suggest to me regular doctor next time I go in..probably nothing but certainly worth looking into.

Tootles,
Kari
