I was readign this article thing on pregnancy related deaths/childbirth related death and post partum related deaths, almost ALL OF THEM where heart related, whether it be blood clot, heart attack, PPCM ect.. I personally think alot of them are probably PPCM udniagnosed!

ANyway the docs are all talking about what should be done about this and who should be to blame etc..

and you know who is to blame THE DOCTORS, it isn't lack of drugs to help, it isn't woman not asking for help, it isn't poor nutrition or lack of prenatal care, it is US and probably a large majrity of those woman who died SAYING I FEEL SICK AND NOT RIGHT AND docs saying, well it is just pregnancy NEXT patient please.. OB's anymore are like baby factories, it is just sad..

I am sorry I had to vent, I am sure there are GREAT docs and OB's out there my cardio is wonderful, but I think so many deaths almost 700 a year could be prevented if DOCS just listened..

Thanks for letting me ramble,,

Amen sister! As a nurse....and a major patient advocate I have heard alot of this from Pregnant women or Post Partum women and have been told to instruct the patient that she is just tired and being a new Mommy is hard work as she is finding out. REMEMBER!!!! The doctor works for you! You hire him! He doesn't hire you! Don't be intimidated by a physician ever! Speak your mind and demand tests! If he/she won't listen go to someone who will and then report them to the medical board! You are your own boss and have to be your own advocate! This isn't directed to you Cari it is just how I feel about your topic! I am with you!

Cari,
Where are the articles? I would love to read them. Like you I think Doctors need to be way more educated on this stuff! I was only the 2nd case my doctor had ever even seen! I am in nursing school, and I want to tell all of this to my fellow students, so they can know signs and symptoms and that it does and can happen to anyone! I know nurses arent doctors but I feel that the more people who know about it the better!

I am always horrifed and saddened to hear about women who were ignored or dismissed by their doctors. I was so fortunate that my OB sent me right to the ER when I said I was really SOB. I didn't want to go!!! I really resisted and he really insisted and thank goodness I listened (and my mom made me go!) I've thanked him so many times, and each time he says "It isn't like I diagnosed you!" and I always say "but you did something, and you sent me to the ER!" Thank goodness he did!! He has only had one other case (although the practice has seen several) and his willingness to check and see what was going on, even if it was nothing probably made a difference. Originally he wanted me to see him the next day, and I am sure he would have sent me to the ER right away, but those 12 hours could have been significant!

Just met one of my neighbors (that we'll be moving away from soon) and she had a different story, but same issue - doctors not believing their patients...

About 4 years ago she begged her husband to go to the doctor because he has a "change in bowel habits" (as she put it). Apparently he became very gassy and was farting 24 hours a day. I'm really not making light of this. These are her words (and in her 'Joisy' accent, the story takes on a whole new dynamic). He didn't want to go, but she kept nagging. When she finally made the appointment for him, their family doctor thought it was funny that she made her husband go to the doctor for gas. He didn't even examine her husband! 2 1/2 years later, he was found to be in stage 4 colon cancer. He did not survive, and she was widowed last year.

Had they not made light of her concerns, they most likely would have caught the changes when they were treatable.

I totally agree with you!! I strongly feel that the lack or delay of care due to doctors not listening to my concerns is flat out negligence and I am still angry about this to this day. Maybe if they listened to me, I would not have progressed into full blown heart failure. No one will listen to me about this point either.
