Hi,
Is it possible to get a cough from an ACE after being on it for years? I was on Enalapril for 6 years without problem. I started taking it again about 4 months ago. I've had a dry cough for about 3 days now but also recently had a bad upper respiratory infection (but had stopped coughing). My cardiologist thinks it could be from the ACE.. not sure if I believe her..

That sounds like your cough is from your respiratory infection. Cough from ACE-inhibitor usually starts early when one begins the medication, and may gradually lessen. It would be unusual for a cough to start after one has been on the ACE-I for several months, but anything could happen. If cough from ACE-inhibitor is too much of a nuisance, the substitute is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB), works just as well, but may be more expensive. There are many different ARB's.
