Just a thought: will there be a difference in EF during exercise compared with rest?

The reason I ask this question is that the technician afer an exercise test always tells me that I can do more exercise wise than he would have expected by the numbers of my EF.

It was explained to me that during exercise a person's EF should increase a bit (your heart needs to pump more forcefully to meet the demands of exercise). In a weakened heart, the EF may not rise or may even decline a bit, unable to meet the demands of the work.

When I had my stress echo, my EF did rise slightly. My cardio told me after that she had hoped it would rise more than it did. So, my understanding is that your EF should increase with exercise.

I would imagine that the technician told you that you could exercise more then he thought related to your EF numbers is because your heart is compensating extremely well for where it is. This would mean that your heart is able to meet the needs of your body during that amount of exercise instead of becoming temporarily worse.

The body is an amazing thing and can compensate for damage. It can even learn to do better then normal functioning on less then normal or ideal circumstances. For instance, there have been people with low EFs (20's and 30's) who have run marathons or performed in other high performance sports.
