Okay, I'm confused. Here's how my story went down. No symptoms except SOB and a whole bunch of benign atrial exercise-induced ectopics that popped up out of nowhere at 11 weeks postpartum and just would not quit. (Still there, but improving.)

Echo done by my cardiologist of 7 + years. Visual estimate was 60%, calculated it was 49%. After the echo, he gave me my ESD and EDD, which were 3.60 and 4.77. I calculated my BSA (at the time I was about 5'7" and 126 pounds) and from the formula I used, my LV was a bit big for me. My SF was well into PPCM range at a hair less than 25%. He did not tell me that part, I calculated it later.

I said, "So I have PPCM?" and he said no. He explained, "You have cardioMEGALY not cardioMYOPATHY. Your heart suqeezes just fine."

But if my SF was less than 25, obviously that isn't fine. So this is where the confusion comes in. By my SF, I had PPCM. By my EF, I did not. My MUGA confirmed his 60-ish percent visual and a normal heart size. He was going to give me meds to "shrink my heart" but opted not to after the MUGA...even though he said he still believed his echo. I asked if the echo could have been wrong, and he said no - because he performed it  He did throw in that if anyone else had done it, he would have dismissed it.

Knowing one way or another would really make me feel better. It's the not knowing that stinks. What's that saying...about how one can face anything if they know their opponent?

You will be better to trust your cardiologist. From the information you have given me I think you marginally meet the criteria for PPCM, and in my mind you have had a mild case of PPCM. If you go from that standpoint and see what future readings show you, I think you will do find, and also find some peace of mind about that issue.

I am confused...what is SF? Is that the same as FS which is fractional shortening?

Mindy,

I think the SF was a typo and was meant to be FS.:)

That was my guess but I wanted to be sure. Thanks for clarifying.
