I couldn't tell you if it's safe or not, but I just as well prefer to stick with the tylenol. That's about all I ever take anymore for pain. I don't even take sinus meds, cough meds or anything like that anymore because they seem to cause too many palpatations and strange rhythms. Just good old nasal spray and ear drops when needed (which I'm taking right now), my heart meds and an occasional antibiotic when needed.

When I was started on an Ace Inhibitor, I was told not to take anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprophen/aleve. It has something to do with the interaction of the two meds. I have to admit I have on occasion taking ibuprophen as there are times that is the only thing that will help.

Doc will still not let me have Aleve with an EF of 65.

Any suggestions how to ease cramping "that time of month?" I never used to cramp before baby #3, and Tylenol isn't working.

I take Motrin My doc has no problem with that..Tylenol doesn't do crap for cramps for me anyway and I would be dying if I coudn't take MOtrin or Ibuprofen

Serena, I take either Motrin or Advil for cramps. The trick is to "stay ahead" of the game as far as pain is concerned. It is very hard to catch up and conquer menstrual pain. I start taking it the night before I know I'm going to start and then stay within the dosing guidelines and just pop them every 6 hrs or so.
Tylenol does NADA for my pain. I tried Aleve once a long time ago and just did not like it. I could literally feel my kidneys burning (lower back cramping) and just didn't feel right. Not a very scientific recommendation I know, but I've stayed away from it ever since.

Thanks, Susan.
Your kidneys burning is scientific enough for me!
I used to think people that complained of cramps were just whining cry babies - until I started getting them! There are times when it feels like labor. Having said that, it's probably pretty silly to think I can take anything OTC that will help. I'll try the advil, though. Hubby keeps that at all times due to his torn rotator cuff (that he won't get fixed).

Serena...we think *so* alike in regards to menstrual pain. Gawd, I hate even typing that out ! I used to roll my eyes and despise any type of conversation geared towards "that time of the month." Complaining and whining about it was for wimps and I never understood.
Flash forward to my 30's when it all came shattering down every month. The pain is intense and constant and I've even considered scheduling my work around those two days where I'm so miserable. Cannot believe I am at that point.
I had a good talk with my gyn about it one time. I don't have endo, so that is not the cause. He said that Motrin or Advil HAS been proven to provide more effective pain relief than even some prescription pain meds. But like I said...the trick is staying ahead of it and keeping it at a constant level. If you have any questions regarding dosage and your renal or liver problems, you should really call your PCP or other specialists. You might have some additional things to be considered and may not need to follow the normal OTC dosing guidelines.
Good luck, hang in there and hey....we've joined the band of whining cry babies every month, LOL !

Joined the band indeed. My Gyn, a couple of months ago, offered me an IUD or an ablation for the constant, heavy, painful periods. Being the wimp that I am, I decided to take the more passive approach and try stress management, since that *could* be a contributing factor.
Blah. It didn't work.
I never used to take meds for anything. If I got a headache, I rode it out. I almost never ever finished any perscription meds (I know, bad). Even after I had my first two children (one natural, one epidural), I did't so much as take a tylenol.
It's been such an easy transition with my heart meds, ("ok, if I take these, I get to live. If I don't, I won't.") that I think it's rubbing off on everything else. Cramps? Give me something now! Headache coming on? I don't think so, pass the Tylenol. Heart burn, everybody stop what you're doing until I get my tums.
The pain is definately worse than when I was younger, but I think I've also discovered the pill popping way of life.

I understand what you mean. I've been taking only Tylenol for cramps for the last 3 years and I miss my Advil. I take Advil only when I am totally miserable and preferably before bed. I've found that with the asprin I take daily, adding a dose of Advil causes significant bruising. It was recommended that I stay away from it for that reason. Watch yourself for bruising, particularly if you are on another anti coagulant.

I use dto have really major pains. I said the same thing "omg its labor." Everyone thought I was crazy. They would say nothing is that bad. @ years before I had my last daughter they found endo. I still have pains but not like before when I had endo. It was in such an early stage that they were able to cut it out and not have to take anything out. It was along my C-section cut. Doesscar tissue cause it? I don't know just glad they found it.
