I have a date for my C-Section, 5th July! I will be almost 36 weeks by then and the baby is already a good size. I need steroid injections to ensure the lungs are developed enough. I am excited / scared / apprehensive / terrified. It's amazing how many different feelings and emotions you go through.
My pregnancy has been relatively good and although my EF has slipped, it hasn't slipped significantly. Does PPCM normally occur before the birth, mines did the last time and now I've got this far I'm terrified it occurs after the birth when I believe I'm home and dry.
I'm not looking forward to being awake for the section (last time I was unconcious and knew nothing) but at least my husband will be present for this birth.

PPCM does occure before birth and up to 6 months after the birth. So just keep your eye on specific symthoms and let your Dr.'s know right away when you are not feeling well. When you have the baby please be sure to share those beautiful baby pictures with us.

Yay! Glad you have a date. Mine occurred in the last week of pregnancy but like Lisa said, can occur up to five months postpartum. Just keep an eye on your symptoms and you should do great hopefully!

yay congrats, how exciting!!! now can you remind me, why are you having the baby quite a bit early? Are you doing ok? how much has your EF slipped? how are you feeling? is it just standard practice for your ob to not let PostPPCM mamas go closer to term?
Good luck!!!

Yeah!!!
You have a date. My doc is currently saying 36 wks also. Seems like alot of women start off with the docs saying that and then get extended once they are doing well. For me personally, I think I would prefer to keep it at 36 wks. The baby should be healthy by then, and I don't want to take any additional risks. I don't know your history, but I also run the risk of pre-E so delivering early minimizes that.
About it recurring after 6 mo out. I'm not a medical professional, and even though its prudent to stay on meds and look out for it until 6mo out, most women have symptoms before or immediately post partum. My personal belief is if you don't have symptoms by 36 wks and especially by the two weeks post partum, you most likely won't. I think you are going to be fine, and I am so excited for you. Sounds like you're getting great care, I read where they have done an echo each month for you.
Can't wait to hear about your bundle of joy!
Best wishes,
Sarah

They won't let me go past the 36 weeks to be on the safe side. My care has been fabulous and I have more or less seen a Doctor every week, with an Echo monthly.
I was unconcious when I had my son by C-Section and then on life support for the first few days and never actually saw him till about day 4 so I'm not too bothered about a C-Section this time but I'm really happy that I'll be awake and my husband will be with me at this birth.
Thank you for all your wishes and kind words.
Julie
