A college friend of mine just called, she ended up in the emergency room the other night for her heart and thought of me :-)

She's 36 years old and has been diagnosed with MVP and slight heart murmur. She's a nurse on the oncology floor at Carolina's Medical Center. She said she got home from work and her heart rate was undetectable...she thought it was around 220 bpm if she had to guess. She started to feel numb on one side of her body and numbness in her fingers, she said she felt like someone heavy was sitting on her back / chest she called 911 - they took her b/p and it was 76 / 55 and her heart rate was in the mid 100's.

She's wearing a holter for the next (30) days and going for an echo next week. She said that her heart rate is always really high - resting in 100's and her blood pressure is always REAL, REAL low. Any suggestions on what could be happening? I'm very worried about her.

Let me know all you nurses!!!!!!

Thanks,
Kari

Carolinas Medical Center saved my moms life. In 1999 she had CHF and a prolapsed mitral valve. In 2000, they replaced it and did a bypass, when other doctors told her there was nothing left to do.

Your friend is in a great place!
