Karen when I was weighing 236 (highest was 253) my doc had me on 50 mg of coreg twice a day!! That was huge. It was because I was over 170 he said. My doc took me down slowly as my BP couldn't handle it anymore. Now with my 100+ weight loss I am down to 6.25 mg twice a day. Ironically when I weighed 253 I had come down to 25 mg twice a day due to my drop in BP. My doc said that BP is key in reduction. I am no longer on my ACE either though. My doc is pro keeping me on it with an EF of 60-65 forever since he says it is a cheap insurance policy. M

Yes it could. Do you have a BP monitor at home? I would take it when you feel low.

I run in the 100's/50's. It is different for everyone. Low is anything below 100/60 but again I have run 90/50 and felt fine. What do you usually run when you feel good? What do you run when you feel low like you want to pass out? Also, what are you doing when you feel like you are going to pass out?

I think it would be helpful for your cardiologist to have the reading you get when you are feeling really low or dizzy or like you could pass out. Can you take the cuff to work with you? I am praying that you start to feel better soon. We can see what Dr. Fett says too. I just horned in as I know from my own experience with Coreg and what my doc did. Have a great day!

Most importantly, the weight loss you have achieved is a very significant accomplishment. Congratulations! With weight reduction, blood pressure may certainly decrease, and any medication affecting BP may need to be adjusted downward. You can work that out with your physicians. If you have symptoms of light-headedness when you go from a sitting or lying to standing position, that indicates that your BP may be dropping too low. Your medical care provider can assess that by measuring B.P. in sitting or lying positon and comparing with immediate level upon standing up. After that small adjustments in meds may help to take care of the symptoms while still helping your heart function maintain EF. We really don't know how long a recovered PPCM mother should stay on medication--for sure at least one year following diagnosis; maybe much longer. One thing experience has shown us is that recovered PPCM patients definitely can eventually come off their medications entirely, and still remain "recovered." But there is no definite marker, such as a blood test, that tells us when that happens. It is a matter of gradually weaning and seeing if normal function continues.
