For anyone who is sensititve to sexual issues this may be to much information for you to read.

This ie embarrasing but I don't know who else to ask. My husband and I were having intercorse and fo the first time in about 10 months, I got on top. I couldn't breath though and had to stop. Ok heres the question. I have an EF of 65 and have never had that trouble before but this was the first time since dx that I had been in that position. What happened? why couldn't I breathe?

The first thing which comes in my mind is this sounds like a condition problem. I don't want to know all your details, but was you exhausting yourself (like in: fitness)? When I really exhaust my self (as a neutral example: running stairs) my HR is up and I will become out of breath. So if this is the point I would suggest try again in a more 'lazy/ laid back' position (let your hubby do the job LOL ).
But maybe I am complete wrong.

We have been doing the lazy position since dx. What you said is my thought to but we wanted to try another position again. Maybe just something else PPCM robs you of. :D

My personal opinion non medical is that it is NOT ppcm related, naybe for some reason anxiety related or just too much exercise it can get exhausting in that position LOL especially if he takes awhile or you for that matter..

My opinion is try try again. I lvoe that position myself but I do get tired and he usually ends up on top, but I really think you'll be fine with some practice, lol!

I actually have a similiar problem I so hope this isn't too much info :o with oral, sometiems I get all feaked out like I can't breath when I am down there, I know it is just anxiety so typically I just plug on, LOl.. But it does happen and I do get freaked out sometimes..

Have fun and try not to wory with an ef of 65% you should be fine!

It just so happens that I teach the "Sex and Heart Disease" class at work, LOL ! Research confirms that the amount of energy required to have sex is roughly equal to the energy required to climb two flights of stairs. With an EF of 65% and no other complaints, I don't have any good explanation as to why you had the trouble. My one thought is a *lot* of patients on beta blockers (and myself included) have noticed that a sudden demand for activity causes shortness of breath....like walking along and suddenly climbing a flight of stairs. Because you are on beta blockers to keep your heart rate slow and the activity is abrupt (i.e. no warm-up), the demand on your heart is intense and your heart is not always right up to pace for such an activity.

I am thinking this may have happened to you..sudden demand, upper body strength,etc.etc.

I'm blushing!

Have you seen the movie Something's Gotta Give ?
I'm having visions of Jack Nicholson staring dauntingly up the flight of steps on the beach.....

And it begs the question...why only TWO flights of stairs? It takes how long to get up two flights of stairs???

Ahh, Serena, since you asked....

It's not the actual minutes that count, it is the amount of oxygen per kg a person must use to actually get up the stairs. Totaled all together, that equal the same energy requirement of sex.

I would also have to ask if she is in good shape exercise wise ?

Diagreeing on personal opinion...MINUTES MATTER TO ME LOL!!!!! :p

Yes, indeed, Carla! 40 is VERY close to 65. Especially if you're at 65 looking backwards.
But you should probably still climb the stairs with your galoches on until you're a little bit closer.

Susan, is there an equivalent to taking the elevator?

Girls, I still have a smile on my face when I see stairs.

I'd say the equivalent of the elevator would be the lazy way as Yvonne put it. I mean then the your partner is walking up the stairs and you (if you want) can lazily enjoy the elevator ride, LOL

I enjoy the elevator sometimes

My husband just asked me what my plans are for this evening. I could only answer: flighing the stairs. I can still see the questionmarks in his eyes.

You girls gave my laugh for the day. ;) I have to work tonight so it will be a long one. As I just got out of bed, I now need my coffee.

Only climb the stairs until you get tired the use the elevator. You will find as you get into shape, the stairs will get easier :D . I like the stais myself. :D

Trying not to laugh out loud and wake up my little one. My hand is literally over my mouth.
However, it isn't the position that makes me tired or out of breath, but just the thought of doing "it" sometimes. Just the demands of the day make me want to pretend to sleep!!! So, that's great that at least you made it as far as on top!!!

Hello all,
I'm new to this PPCM. My 21 year jold daughter was digionosed March 5th of this year. We new nothing about this at all. She was sent home with alot of swelling all over her body and high blood pressure. On Sunday she couldn't breath her husband took her the the er which she had to wait 6 hours to get in. Finally when they saw her she was suddendly place on a vent. 2 days later was moved to a regular room. Shw is on 7 medications. Was told that the first 3 month she will still be in the woods. Her EF was 30, they did and ECHO when we left hospital on the14th and it had dropped to 25 . Was told this is normal. Is it? I have been reading all of your posts and it has helped alot. Just scared to death she might still die. Could someone tell me what to expect for the next 3 months. lShe is 8 hours away from me and i have been going down once a week to help with precious Sarah. Which we have been told will be the only child she can have. I would love to hear from all of you as to what we can expect for a while.

I'm not trying to be rude but only trying to help. If you will click new thread then you can give your post a label and it will show up on the main screen. By doing it this way alot of people maynot see it if they have all ready looked at this topic. It will be rough the first 3 months those are the worst mental and physically draining. She needs all the rest she can get. That is not the worst EF there is on this site and some have been living with a worse ef for years. We have a Dr. Fett on this site so if you will post like I just told you he will respond to your question. And we also have some Cardio nurses, but like I said they may not see it under this topic. Lots of Love. :)
