Does anyone else watch House, MD. I love that show. The lady had a cardiomyopathy from taking Ipekac and vomitting, so odd??? Anyways, i like to watch and guess the diagnosis. It really is a great show and Dr. House is a riot(viocidin). Check it out sometime, definitly worth watching.

I seen it. I watch it every week. Medical Investigation is another good one. It comes on Friday night, though I can't remember what channel. It airs at 10pm.

I did happen to see it, and I spend very little time with the TV. He is an interesting character, can you imagine if your cardiologist was that abrasive?

I was miffed at how they represented heart transplant. And the phrase "irrversable cardiomyopathy". (haven't I heard that somewhere before?) She went straight to the top of the list without any of the protocol. And got a heart in a matter of days. And I didn't see a single cardiologist. pfft.

Hollywood.

Hmmm..is it fiction? I don't think I've ever seen the show.

The doctors at UNC told me before my delivery that NC is one of the best states if you happen to need a heart transplant. Besides the great facilities (UNC and Duke within 10 miles of each other), once you reach top priority on the list, the wait on average is 36 hours.

Apparently we have alot of people in this state that think government is too restrictive with their motorcycle helmet laws - or as the doctor called them, donorcycles.

And while I'm thinking about it...why don't they let death row inmates donate their organs? Even if you're against the death penalty, you've got to admit that since states are doing it anyway, why not have some good come of it??

Iwatch and love this show also! It is fun to try and figure it out. Although that woman did seem to be doing well to have just had a heart transplant!

Yeah she was wearing makeup and everything. That was very unrealistic, but yeah it's still a great show. :p

The first few episodes I watched I thought he was a complete jerk, I didn't like him or the show AT ALL. He's really grown on me, I love the show now!

When you were in the hospital, did any ask you if you had a hx of eating disorders?

This show made me think of that--I got asked if I did drugs, drank, what I craved while pregnant (I mean, I like food but to gain 90 pounds?) and on and on, but nothing about eating disorders. I think I look much more likely to have an eating disorder than be a junkie...

I know anorexia can cause cardiac problems but don't know if it can cause CHF or CM specifically.

They asked me to and I wonder if maybe it has something to do with trying to find out if you will qualify for a transplant if you need one. They can disqualify you for so many things.

Didn't see the show, but -
While evalutated for transplant - both times, I was asked extensivley about the drugs, drinking, lifestyle, and eating disorders.
I was told this was not to find out what caused the CHF - because frankly they don't care. They wanted to know if I would lead a healthy lifestyle and take care of my new heart. What's the point of giving you one if you're not going to take care of it? I dunno...that was the impression I got...
Like filling out papers to adopt a puppy from the pound - only with much more serious consequences.

They asked me about all of that crap. I did say that i did alot of drinking in college and they didn't seem concerned. I do not have an eating disorder. Wanna hear a kicker though..This is soooo grooosss...They asked me and my husband Joey, when Owen was diagnosed w PKU, if there was any way possible that we were related...I about DIED. Because it is sooo unlikely that we would both carry the gene...ISN'T that crazy???
