Yesterday, at my appointment in the heart failure clinic I asked the doctor (a registrar of my doctor, one I didn't see before) about my absence of menstruation. Since december last year my periods became less and less and now the stopped. I read on the internet this can be caused by the spironolacton so I asked him if this is true. He answered that this was (as he knew) not very common and suggested me to see a ob/gyn. I said that missing my periods is not that bad, but I just like to know what the cause is. Then he asked: Oh, are you trying to become pregnant?
I answered him: Why do you think I am here? My heartfailure started after my pregnancy. I thougth I have PPCM?
But in the hospital they always call it DCM, only in the first part of my papers is written post-partum DCM. So I think he just began to read in my papers halfway. Not very subtle question in my opinion.

Yvonne-
you should feel more comfortable than that with someone who has a very delicate matter in his hands... your health!

It doesn't really sound like he cares at all... I would be looking for a new cardio doc ASAP!!!!!!

I was on spirolactone for about a year and i dont' remember my periods slowing or stoping at all... so i am curious about that... i am off it now.
I would take this matter up with a new cardio doc :)

You should be able to talk about anything and he should be on top your health records :)
I hope i am helping but i am very concerned for you now... please let us know what happens.
take care!!

Mikki,
Thanks for your kind reply. The problem is this was not my doctor, but one of his team. My doctor is very famous and they told me he is the best (his speciality is transplants, urgh). But within the english system he is the boss of a whole team. When your condition is really bad, you will see him. But in my case, since my condition improved, I have to deal with one of his registrars. I know he will have the final judgement about my treatment even when I'm not seeing him.
I agree with you everybody should see a person you feel comfortable with, especially about this important subject, your health. But I also think the English healthcare system is quite hierarchical and I have to deal with that. I still feel very confident with my medical treatment.

About my absence of periods: I will consult a OB/GYN. I'll keep you informed about this subject!
